Director Interview - Diane Dresback | The Weekly Geek
Whatup, nerds. Welcome to The Weekly Geek, your place to discover awesome new stuff to geek out about. This week, I interviewed director, producer, and author Diane Dresback on what she's enjoying.
Diane has worked in independent film since 2007. She's completed over 35 short films as writer, director, producer, and has won numerous awards for her efforts. Diane has written several feature length screenplays, including one she also produced called Paranoia. The Phoenix Film Foundation presented her with the 2012 Arizona Filmmaker of the Year Award, and she established and hosted IFP's monthly Filmmaker Fusion event for its first 18 months. Diane released her 5th book (4th novel) in 2018, and is currently working on her next one.
Diane, what are you geeking out about?
What I'm watching: Got nostalgic and decided to re-watch one of my all-time favorite series - FRINGE. Such an intriguing story - An F.B.I. agent is forced to work with an institutionalized scientist and his son in order to rationalize a brewing storm of unexplained phenomena. Forever love these characters. Walter Bishop (John Noble) was the best--his intellect and his cow. When I originally watched 2008 to 2013, I had to wait a full week between episodes, now it's a binge fest.
What I'm reading: Just finishing up Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter. Oh man, one of the protagonists is just chilling! Also, for a little more practical purposes, re-reading Directing Actors by Judith Weston.
What I'm cooking: Learning how to cook in a wonder of a creation, my Instant Pot. Trying out different recipes, and devouring MOST of what emerges. Latest win - honey garlic chicken with rice. Mmm.
What I'm building: Been on my list for some time to set up a decent home audio booth. I've identified a closet in my guest room, purchased the foam and equipment, now taking a course on proper set up. Not sure anyone will want to listen to my voice, but it sounds like a total blast to do some recording.
What else are you up to?
My current novel project: Continuing to work on my next novel Awake as a Stranger. Treaz wakes up in another person’s body as Omani is held captive on her uncle’s compound. Both long for freedom but they don’t even know each other exists. Can they find it together?
My current film project: Adapting my first novel into a screenplay called, Promise of Protection: Joe is called to a senior living facility 16 hours away. He unwillingly becomes entangled in unraveling the bizarre scientific work of his estranged father.
And, that's my geekiness for the week!
