No Way Home for the Holidays | The Weekly Geek 62
Merry Christmas, you nerd. Here’s your bi-weekly short list of stuff I’m geeking out about:
What I’m watching: Spider-Man: No Way Home. No Spoilers. This was one of my most anticipated Marvel movies of Phase 4, and it feels the most significant in terms of moving the MCU forward so far. Loaded with plot holes and unrealistic character choices, it still proved an entertaining ride. Honestly, the business and creative side of these movies amaze me. The fact that the writers get to play around with so much intellectual property in unprecedented ways is fascinating. This one’s worth a watch in the theater.
What I’m playing: Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. This is Mario Kart on your living room floor. The game comes with an RC Mario or Luigi car sporting a camera that streams to your Nintendo Switch for an augmented reality race through your house. You can set up the race course however you like and choose different “maps” that augment your home with different themes. It’s a clever take on Mario Kart and one that proves we’re at a fairly advanced place with AR.
Quote I’m pondering: “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” – Unknown Author, though an early incarnation is attributed to history scholar Thomas Henry Buckley. I don’t completely buy into blanket statements, and this one is no exception, but I feel it does hold truth in many ways.
That’s it for this week! If you like discovering awesome new things, be sure to subscribe and share. Merry Christmas and happy New Year, you nerd.
